Instant Pot Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo Recipe
Did you know that February 7th is National Fettuccine Alfredo day? I didn’t know and I just happened to make this great recipe filled with fresh flavors.
I used to just serve this for special occasions and use Knorr pasta side dishes for quick dinners.
However, this is such an easy and delicious main dish that I started making it more and more.
Making your own alfredo sauce is so easy and an excellent choice with an amazing flavor that tastes so much better than jar sauce that has all that added msg in it.
One of my concerns when making this was that the noodles were going to be mush and it wasn’t going to be juicy chicken. However, they were al dente and the chicken was perfect.
This creamy white sauce is the perfect recipe that can be served with a variety of delicious side dishes.
A simple Italian comfort food solution that is an easy meal with a delicious flavor that will tantalize your taste buds.
Chicken Alfredo Ingredients
- Chicken Broth – You can use your favorite brand of chicken broth. I normally use the store brand and can’t tell the difference.
- Heavy Cream – You want to make sure you have heavy cream and not half and half.
- Minced Garlic – If you want to use fresh garlic cloves you can. I have a jar of minced garlic and find it easier.
- Fettuccine Noodles, break in half – I don’t see why you couldn’t use spaghetti noodles if that’s all you have on hand. However, I have never tried it.
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast – I thawed mine out before using but you can use frozen if that’s all you have.
- Freshly Grated Shredded Parmesan Cheese – I use the bag variety as it’s so much better than the dried stuff in the can.
- Salt and Black Pepper – Add both of these according to your tastes. Fresh black pepper is the best.
- For exact measurements, please see the recipe card below.

Supplies Needed
- Ninja Foodi – A combination Pressure cooker and Air Fryer that does double duty and should be a staple in everyone’s kitchen.
- Rubber spatula – The Wilton set is a 3 piece set with different sizes and one that acts as a spoon also.
- Tongs – Perfect for grabbing hot foods out of a pan or on the grill.
- Cutting Board – I use the flexible cutting boards with different ones for different food items.
- Sharp Knife – As the color coded flexible cutting boards, the knife set is also color coded.
- Pasta Measuring Tool – You can eyeball how much pasta you need, but this tool makes it so much easier.
How to Make Creamy Fettucine Alfredo
Start by adding your ingredients to your instant pot, chicken broth, heavy cream, and minced garlic. Do not stir.
Break your fettuccine noodles in half and place them in the liquid in the pressure cooker.
Press down with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula so the noodles are all covered.
Place your boneless, skinless chicken breasts on the top.
Place cover on Instant Pot and put in the seal position.
Set to high for 8 minutes.
It takes about 11 minutes to come to pressure. Then it will start counting your 8 minutes of cook time.
Once the 8 minutes are done, let it naturally release for another 8 minutes.
After that 8 minutes, release the rest of the pressure carefully. I usually place a towel over the vent and hit the button with a wooden spoon.
When all the air is released, open the cover away from you so the steam doesn’t burn you.
Remove the chicken breasts with tongs and slice them into thin slices or cubes.
Add 1 cup of freshly grated, finely shredded parmesan cheese. (I use the packaged parmesan and not the dried stuff in the can!) One cup isn’t really that much cheese, and I may have added the entire bag before and sprinkled Romano cheese on the top.
Mix lightly and add your diced chicken. Adding the chicken is optional. You can also make it on a hot grill and serve it on the side.
Let sit for about 3-4 minutes so the cheese can melt and you have a creamy cheese sauce.
Stir and serve. Enjoy!
Notes: I have found that when it sat overnight or for a couple hours, it tasted so much better. When things sit, the flavors marry into each other and taste better.
What Side Dishes to Serve with Chicken Alfredo
If you’ve ever gone to an authentic Italian restaurant, then you know that one of the main side dishes for creamy Fettuccine Alfredo is Garlic Bread and Olive Oil.
For those that don’t have garlic bread on hand, just use white bread with a garlic butter spread.
Here are a few recipe links to our best side dishes.
- Garlic Bread
- Classic coleslaw – This has a crisp texture with simple ingredients and is the foundation of a crowd-pleasing dinner.
- Arugula Salad
- Green Salad
- Caesar salad – While this might not be the healthiest salad because of the obvious…bacon, but it will be the best one you ever had.
- Green beans casserole bites (an easy side dish) – Individual Green Bean Casserole Bites are a twist on the traditional casserole dish. The individual servings make it perfect for any size gathering.
- Green vegetables
- Potato Wedges – Homemade french fries are always better than store bought frozen.Â
- Golden brown french Fries
- Onion Rings – Fresh onion slices dredged in Italian Style breadcrumbs and air fried until crispy and perfectly golden.
- If you want to keep it on the lighter side, you can serve it with any type of simple side dish such as fresh salads which is one of my favorite alfredo pasta sides.
How do I Make Fettuccine Alfredo Better
This is one of my favorite one-pot meal chicken alfredo recipes. The creamy sauce complements simple sides. A classic Italian dish.
If you want to add extra flavor, add some bell pepper or a little bit of garlic powder. Change up the flavor by adding chili powder.
Some people have added lemon juice and also use butter to give it a silky smooth appearance.
Omit the chicken and make it a fettuccine shrimp alfredo dinner or cajun chicken alfredo. In addition, broccoli can be added also.
I have also seen recipes that used cream cheese to make a cream sauce that is a really cheesy sauce.
The best things are the cheesy flavors and all these ingredients are readily found while grocery shopping.
And don’t forget the wine. Any great Italian dinner deserves a bottle of wine.
How Long Do You Cook Fettuccine For
If you are cooking it in pasta water, then you will cook it for 8 to 13 minutes.
Normally, you can just follow the package directions and cook it over medium heat once it comes to a rolling boil.
