5 New Fast-Food Burgers, Bowls and Fries Worth Trying This Month
Fast-food chains seem determined to make October taste less like pumpkin spice and more like melted cheese, crispy onions, and loaded fries.
That strategy makes sense. Limited-time restaurant offers have exploded in recent years. Technomic data reported by Nation’s Restaurant News shows that the number of limited-time offers launched by restaurant chains increased 157% between 2019 and 2025, climbing from 16,187 launches to 41,707. Nearly 43,000 limited-time offers are projected for 2026.
Consumers apparently notice. Circana has previously found that 91% of consumers said they were more likely to visit a restaurant chain if it offered new items or limited-time specials.
That helps explain why the drive-thru feels particularly busy with experimentation this fall. From a pretzel-bun burger built for football season to fries loaded like an entire cheeseburger, here are five recent fast-food arrivals Americans may want to know about.
Burger King’s Game Day Pretzel Burger

Burger King may have created one of October’s most unapologetically football-friendly burgers.
The Game Day Pretzel Burger, which arrived at participating U.S. restaurants on October 6, starts with a quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty and piles on American cheese, bacon, crispy onions, and nacho cheese sauce. Instead of the usual hamburger bun, everything gets tucked inside a warm SUPERPRETZEL soft pretzel bun.
It is part of Burger King’s new Game Day Menu, which also includes Chicken Fries served with nacho cheese sauce.
The concept feels almost engineered for someone eating while watching Sunday football: burger, bacon, stadium-style cheese and pretzel all in one package. It is available for a limited time at participating locations.
Culver’s Smoked Cheddar CurderBurger
Culver’s has never been particularly shy about cheese, but the Smoked Cheddar CurderBurger takes that reputation to another level.
The burger combines the chain’s beef ButterBurger with a large, golden-fried smoked cheddar cheese curd crown. It is the first flavored version of Culver’s CurderBurger since the original debuted in 2021.
It technically landed September 28, but its run centers on the chain’s October Curdtoberfest celebration and continues through October 11, or while supplies last.
The idea also has a little fast-food history behind it. The original CurderBurger began as an April Fools’ concept before customer interest became strong enough for Culver’s to actually make it. This year’s smoked-cheddar spin shows just how far the joke has traveled.
Culver’s says it now operates about 1,000 restaurants in 26 states, so availability is broad but still heavily concentrated in parts of the Midwest and surrounding regions.
KFC’s Go Buckets

KFC’s newest idea is technically a bucket rather than a bowl, but it fills much the same grab-it-and-go role, and the container itself is part of the selling point.
Introduced in early October, KFC Go Buckets pair chicken with either Secret Recipe Fries or Potato Wedges in packaging designed to fit inside a standard car cupholder. Prices start at $3.49 at participating restaurants.
Customers can choose among options such as nuggets, a chicken tender, or Double Crispy Hot Wings, then add a dipping sauce.
The smaller format makes practical sense. KFC cited data from essential research showing that 87% of consumers snack outside traditional mealtimes, while National Restaurant Association data cited by the company indicates that nearly three out of four restaurant orders are now taken to go.
In other words, KFC is betting that plenty of customers want something between “just a snack” and an entire bucket of chicken.

Shake Shack’s Black Truffle Burger
For diners who prefer their fast food with a slightly fancy vocabulary, Shake Shack has brought back its Black Truffle Burger.
The seasonal burger returned nationwide on September 29, putting it squarely on October menus. It combines a quarter-pound Angus beef patty with fontina cheese, crispy sweet onions, and black truffle sauce on a toasted potato bun. Shake Shack says the sauce uses black truffle oil made in Umbria, Italy.
The chain also brought back Black Truffle Parmesan Fries and other truffle-themed items.
It is an interesting example of how fast-casual restaurants are trying to offer foods customers may feel are harder to duplicate at home. Technomic’s 2026 menu report specifically identified distinctive, signature items and social-media-friendly foods as tools restaurants are using to demonstrate value beyond simply lowering prices.
The Black Truffle Burger is available for a limited time at participating Shake Shack locations nationwide, excluding some licensed venues.
Del Taco’s Flamin’ Hot Queso Loaded Fries
Then there are fries that have clearly stopped pretending to be a side dish.
Del Taco’s Flamin’ Hot Queso Loaded Fries start with the chain’s crinkle-cut fries and pile on seasoned beef, Flamin’ Hot-flavored queso, grated cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and sliced jalapeños.
The centerpiece is a new queso made by combining Del Taco’s queso blanco with the familiar heat associated with Cheetos Flamin’ Hot seasoning.
The lineup debuted September 17 as a limited-time promotion, but it remains one of the chain’s prominently advertised new offerings heading into October.
This one is less about subtlety than maximum flavor: crispy fries, beef, two forms of cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and a recognizable spicy-snack flavor all fighting for space in the same container.
October’s Fast-Food Menu Is All About Going Big
There is a noticeable pattern here. Instead of relying solely on bargain menus, chains are taking familiar foods, burgers, fries, chicken, and cheese, and giving them louder, more indulgent twists.
That fits the broader industry picture. Technomic says limited-time offers remain important as consumers watch their spending, while restaurants look for ways to give customers something memorable enough to justify another visit.
So whether a smoked-cheddar burger, truffle sauce, or Flamin’ Hot queso sounds irresistible or completely excessive may be beside the point. In an increasingly crowded drive-thru market, getting people curious enough to say, “I have to try that once,” is exactly what these menus are designed to do.
