Homemade Onion Powder

Onion powder is an easy way to add depth and flavor to everyday cooking. It works well in everything from soups and sauces to dry rubs, marinades, and simple weeknight meals. A small amount goes a long way, which makes it a dependable seasoning to keep on hand.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Spice Grinder, Coffee Grinder, or Mortar and Pestle
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients
  

  • 3 red onions

Instructions
 

  • Peel the onion and thinly slice it with a vegetable peeler or slicer. Lightly squeeze out excess moisture and blot with a paper towel.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F). Spread the onion slices evenly in the air fryer basket and then cook for 5 minutes at this temperature.
  • Then, reduce the heat to 130°C (265°F) and cook for another 5 minutes. Stir the onions, reduce the temperature to 90°C (194°F), and continue cooking until the onions are golden and crispy, which should take about 25 minutes.
  • Once done, allow the onions to cool completely.
  • Then, grind the dried onions in a coffee grinder until fine.
  • And that's it. You can now use your dry onions.
