23-Year-Old New Jersey Man Dies After Route 138 Rollover Crash In Wall Township
A quiet stretch of early Wednesday morning turned tragic in Wall Township after a 23-year-old New Jersey man died from injuries suffered in a single-vehicle rollover crash on a Route 138 ramp.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m., at a time when most of the Jersey Shore was still asleep and the roadways were largely left to headlights, shadows, and passing emergency sirens. Police said multiple 911 calls came in around 1:47 a.m. reporting a severe crash on the ramp connecting State Highway 138 East to State Highway 35 North.
When officers and emergency crews arrived, they found a black 2019 Chevrolet Trax overturned and pushed deep into the wooded area along an embankment. What may have begun as a routine drive toward Route 35 ended in a violent chain of impact, with the vehicle leaving the roadway, striking a guardrail, hitting local signage and a light pole, then overturning off the ramp.
The driver, who police said was the only person inside the vehicle, was from Kearny, New Jersey. His name has not been released publicly because his family has been notified and authorities are respecting their privacy.
Emergency Crews Rushed To The Scene
Wall Township police patrols responded alongside Wall Township Fire District 1 and Medstar EMS. The crash scene was not a simple roadside stop. The vehicle had overturned and come to rest away from the main travel lane, lodged in the wooded embankment, where emergency crews had to reach the driver and remove him from the wreckage.
Police said the man was found unresponsive but still breathing when responders got to him. EMS and paramedics treated him at the scene before he was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Despite emergency treatment and later efforts by hospital staff, the young driver died from his injuries.
