8 Fast-Food Favorites That Are Back on Menus This Fall

Spread the love

Fall’s fast-food menu is not just pumpkin spice and novelty shakes. This season, several chains are bringing back discontinued favorites, limited-time cult hits, and familiar comfort-food orders that fans have spent years requesting. From pretzel-bun burgers and crispy chicken sliders to turkey subs and stuffed French toast, the drive-thru is leaning hard into foods people already know they love.

That return-to-the-menu strategy makes sense in a price-conscious dining climate. Restaurant operators are trying to deliver clear value while still giving customers a reason to choose them over another quick meal. Chad Moutray, the National Restaurant Association’s chief economist, has described it as a “delicate balance” between standing out on value and making the business math work. A comeback item helps because the chain is not asking diners to take a chance on a completely unfamiliar idea.

Wendy’s Brings the Pub Back

Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger returned to U.S. restaurants on Aug. 3 after winning the chain’s “Bring it Back” bracket earlier this year. The burger first arrived in 2020 and left menus in 2022, but Wendy’s says customer demand never cooled off. Its return is limited-time, so the burger is back but not necessarily back for good.

The sandwich begins with Wendy’s fresh, never-frozen quarter-pound beef patty and stacks on Muenster cheese, Applewood-smoked bacon, smoky honey mustard, warm beer cheese sauce, crispy fried onions, and pickles. Everything goes inside a soft pretzel bun, creating a bigger, more dressed-up burger than a basic cheeseburger order. Wendy’s says its pretzel-bun history reaches back to 2013, which explains why the format has a loyal audience.

The comeback did not stop at beef. Wendy’s also returned the Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich, which uses the chain’s Classic chicken filet with the same bacon, cheese, beer-cheese, onion, pickle, and honey-mustard treatment. For customers who think fries deserve the same attention as the sandwich, Bacon Pub Fries have returned as well, topped with beer cheese, shredded cheddar, and Applewood-smoked bacon.

Wendy’s did not attach a nationwide end date to the returning pub lineup in its announcement, only noting that it is available “for a limited time” at participating U.S. restaurants. That is the recurring catch with many fall menu comebacks: the food arrives with plenty of fanfare, but diners should not assume it will stay around until winter.

Taco Bell Is in Full Nostalgia Mode

Taco Bell has brought back several fan favorites at once, making its menu unusually generous to customers who miss the chain’s older, crunchier, cheesier creations. The Quesarito, Beefy Crunch Burrito, Naked Chicken Chalupa, and Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Sliders are listed as limited-time options at participating locations, though prices and exact availability vary by restaurant.

The Quesarito is the familiar Taco Bell mash-up: a seasoned-beef burrito with rice and reduced-fat sour cream, wrapped inside a grilled cheese quesadilla with nacho cheese sauce. In January,Taco Bell introduced a Volcano Quesarito variation featuring Volcano Sauce, a new sauce the company described as a cheesy, spicy continuation of its fan-favorite Lava Sauce. “We’re always pushing for new ways for our fans to experience the things they love about our menu,” Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Luis Restrepo said at the time.

The Beefy Crunch Burrito is also back, combining seasoned beef, rice, sour cream, cheese, and Flamin’ Hot Fritos in a flour tortilla. Taco Bell’s store-specific menus list it at $2.79 to $2.99 in some locations, but local prices vary. The key point is that this is a return, not a permanent addition: Taco Bell describes new and featured items as limited-time offers while supplies last.

Then there is the Naked Chicken Chalupa, the highly recognizable item that uses a crispy chicken shell instead of the usual chalupa bread. Taco Bell’s current featured menus list it with lettuce, cheddar cheese, and avocado ranch sauce. The chain has also revived Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Sliders, available with Creamy Chipotle or Diablo Ranch sauce. The sliders bring Taco Bell’s crispy chicken back in a compact Crunchwrap format, proof that the chain is committed to finding every possible geometric arrangement for fried chicken and a tortilla.

More Fall Favorites Worth Catching

Firehouse Subs has brought back its Thanksgiving Turkey Sub for fall 2026. The seasonal sandwich features white-meat turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayonnaise, and the brand’s toasted sub roll, giving customers the best part of a Thanksgiving leftovers plate before the holiday arrives. It is a limited-time return, so it is designed for people who consider cranberry sauce a year-round possibility rather than a once-a-year obligation.

IHOP’s Stuffed French Toast is also back after a six-year absence, according to Nation’s Restaurant News. The return includes strawberry and blueberry versions, putting the breakfast chain firmly in the “if ordinary French toast is good, filled French toast is better” camp. The items are part of IHOP’s fall menu, though customers should check their local restaurant because promotional availability can differ by location.

Culver’s is returning Jalapeño Cheese Curds for a limited fall run beginning Oct. 12 and continuing through Nov. 29, or while supplies last. The side item follows the chain’s Smoked Cheddar CurderBurger release, which began Sept. 28 and is scheduled to run through Oct. 11. The Jalapeño Cheese Curds are made with cheddar cheese and jalapeño pieces, giving Culver’s classic Wisconsin-style cheese curds a spicy update.

Emily Patterson, Culver’s vice president of marketing, said the chain’s Curdtoberfest promotion is about bringing people together around the foods tied to the brand’s Midwestern roots. “The best celebrations bring people together, and that’s exactly what Curdtoberfest is all about,” Patterson said. “Whether trying our new take on the CurderBurger, sharing an order of Jalapeño Cheese Curds or celebrating National Cheese Curd Day with us, we hope Curdtoberfest gives guests a reason to gather round and experience a little Midwest magic.”

That makes eight notable fall returns: Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger, Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich, and Bacon Pub Fries; Taco Bell’s Quesarito, Beefy Crunch Burrito, Naked Chicken Chalupa, and Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Sliders; Firehouse Subs’ Thanksgiving Turkey Sub; IHOP Stuffed French Toast; and Culver’s Jalapeño Cheese Curds. The list is longer than eight because some chains are reviving entire families of items, not just one lonely fan favorite. The broader message is clear: this fall, fast food is betting that sometimes the newest thing on the menu is the one customers already missed.
