Chick-fil-A Announces 9 New Restaurants Across Western Pennsylvania by 2028
Chick-fil-A has announced plans for nine new locally owned and operated restaurants across Western Pennsylvania, with the expansion expected to continue through the end of 2028.
The company said the planned locations will extend across the Greater Pittsburgh area and the Johnstown–Altoona–State College communities, covering an area from Pennsylvania’s western border with Ohio to the Interstate 99 corridor and south to the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The company announced the expansion on Sept. 21, 2026.
Where the Nine Restaurants Are Planned
The nine planned restaurants are spread across communities north and east of Pittsburgh, as well as along the Interstate 80 corridor.
North of Pittsburgh, Chick-fil-A announced planned locations in:
- Mars
- Butler
- Gibsonia
Along the Interstate 80 corridor, the company listed:
- Hermitage
- DuBois
East of Pittsburgh, planned locations include:
- Indiana
- Murrysville
- Latrobe
- Johnstown

When Each Location Is Expected to Open
Chick-fil-A provided expected opening timelines for each planned restaurant, though the nine locations are not all scheduled to open at the same time.
The announced timelines are:
- Mars: October 2026
- Butler: By spring 2027
- Indiana: By spring 2027
- Gibsonia: 2028
- Hermitage: By 2028
- DuBois: By 2028
- Murrysville: By the end of 2028
- Latrobe: By the end of 2028
- Johnstown: By the end of 2028
Chick-fil-A said the restaurants are anticipated to open within those timeframes, with the overall expansion continuing through the end of 2028.
Mars Is Scheduled to Open in October
The Mars restaurant has a separately announced opening date from Chick-fil-A.
According to a Sept. 18, 2026, Chick-fil-A announcement about the Mars opening, Chick-fil-A Mars is scheduled to begin serving guests on Oct. 1, 2026, at 6:30 a.m. The location listed in that announcement is 600 Holden Dr., Valencia, and the company said the restaurant is expected to create approximately 100 jobs.
The Oct. 1 opening date applies specifically to the Mars location and was provided separately from the broader Sept. 21 announcement covering the nine-restaurant Western Pennsylvania expansion.
The Expansion Is Expected to Add About 1,080 Jobs
Chick-fil-A said the nine-restaurant expansion is expected to create approximately 1,080 jobs.
The company also outlined community-giving commitments connected to the new restaurants. Chick-fil-A said it will donate $25,000 to a Feeding America partner food bank or affiliate with each new restaurant.
In addition, Chick-fil-A said it has donated $125,000 to Feeding America in support of local hunger-relief efforts in Western Pennsylvania since 2020.
Chick-fil-A also reported that its Western Pennsylvania restaurants have helped create more than 400,000 meals through the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program. The company said the program redirects surplus restaurant food to local shelters, food banks and nonprofits.
Chick-fil-A’s Western Pennsylvania Footprint
Chick-fil-A said its history in Western Pennsylvania dates back to 1979, when the company opened its first restaurant in the region at Westmoreland Mall.
The company currently has 20 locally owned and operated restaurants in Western Pennsylvania, according to the expansion announcement. Chick-fil-A said its most recent Western Pennsylvania opening before the new expansion announcement was Chick-fil-A Uniontown in 2025. The company’s Pennsylvania restaurant directory lists current locations across the state, including several in the Western Pennsylvania region.
The company said the expansion is focused on creating additional local ownership opportunities, jobs, and leadership development as the new restaurants move forward.
