Love Chick-fil-A? Here Are 8 Reasons to Reconsider Your Next Visit

That Chick-fil-A craving might cost more time and money than you expect. A FinanceBuzz analysis found that Chick-fil-A kids’ meal prices increased by an average of 63% between 2014 and 2024, while a 2026 drive-thru study recorded some of the industry’s longest average waits at the chain.

The chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, and friendly service still have loyal fans, and Chick-fil-A earned a 98% satisfaction rating in the 2026 drive-thru study. However, rising prices, ordering restrictions, and rewards limitations give customers practical reasons to think twice before their next visit.

Remember when grabbing a chicken sandwich and fries felt like an inexpensive lunch? FinanceBuzz examined popular fast-food menu prices between 2014 and 2024 and found that Chick-fil-A’s sampled items rose by an average of 55%, while its kids’ meal analysis showed a 63% increase over the same period.

Temple University economics professor Michael Bognanno told FinanceBuzz that rising labor, food, and energy costs have driven up fast-food prices across the industry. That doesn’t automatically make Chick-fil-A overpriced compared with every competitor, but it does mean customers should compare current local prices instead of assuming their familiar order remains an affordable choice.

The Drive-Thru Isn’t Always as Fast as You Think

Chick-fil-A is known for its organized drive-thru operations, but the latest independent figures reveal an interesting trade-off. Intouch Insight’s October 2026 study of 13 restaurant chains found that Chick-fil-A averaged 7 minutes and 6 seconds per drive-thru visit, compared with an industry average of 5 minutes and 24 seconds.

Sarah Beckett, vice president of sales and marketing at Intouch Insight, explained that friendly interactions can strongly influence how customers feel about their experience, even when speed differs. Chick-fil-A’s 98% satisfaction rating supports that distinction, but if you’re rushing through your lunch break, a shorter line elsewhere may be more appealing.

Delivery Orders Come With Higher Prices

Ordering Chick-fil-A from your couch sounds convenient, especially when you would rather skip the drive-thru altogether. However, Chick-fil-A confirms that delivery menu prices are higher than restaurant prices, and additional delivery charges may apply depending on the ordering method and location.

The company offers delivery through its website and app, as well as third-party providers such as DoorDash and Uber Eats, though availability varies by restaurant. Before checking out, compare the delivery total with the pickup price because the extra convenience may not be worth the additional expense for a relatively small order.

Third-Party Delivery Orders Can Cost You Rewards Points

If you regularly collect Chick-fil-A One points, the ordering platform you choose matters more than you might realize. According to Chick-fil-A’s official policy, orders placed through third-party apps or websites, including DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Postmates, don’t qualify for Chick-fil-A One points or rewards.

Ordering through Chick-fil-A’s own app makes a difference: qualifying delivery purchases can earn points even when DoorDash powers the delivery. Frequent customers trying to build rewards can miss out by choosing the wrong ordering platform, even when they already planned to spend the money.

Sunday Cravings Are Still Off the Table

Few restaurant policies are as familiar as Chick-fil-A’s decision to remain closed on Sundays. The company says the closure gives employees a day of rest, and CEO Andrew Cathy reaffirmed the policy in an October 2026 interview, indicating the longstanding schedule won’t change.

For customers who work Monday through Saturday or prefer getting takeout after Sunday activities, that creates an unavoidable scheduling limitation. Whatever your opinion of the policy, Chick-fil-A simply isn’t an option for a spontaneous Sunday chicken sandwich, so you need to plan an alternative.

Breakfast Ends Earlier Than Some Customers Would Like

Love Chick-fil-A’s Chicken Biscuit or Hash Brown Scramble Bowl? According to the company’s official customer information, its regular breakfast service ends at 10:30 a.m., when the restaurant switches to its lunch menu.

That cutoff can inconvenience customers who prefer a late breakfast, especially on days when morning errands take longer than expected. Chick-fil-A also notes that opening hours vary by restaurant and change during holidays, so check local operating times rather than assuming every location follows the same schedule.

Some Locations Don’t Accept the Rewards App

You might expect your Chick-fil-A One membership to work anywhere you see the familiar red logo, but that’s not always the case. Chick-fil-A confirms that its app is not accepted at Chick-fil-A Express and licensed locations, including certain restaurants in airports, colleges, hospitals, and office complexes.

These restaurants operate through third-party food contractors rather than the company’s usual franchise arrangement, and customers cannot earn or redeem Chick-fil-A One points there. That restriction matters especially for travelers and students who may rely on these locations regularly, so it’s wise to check eligibility before expecting an app reward to cover a purchase.

Free Offers Aren’t Always Available Everywhere

Those free sandwich offers and app giveaways can be tempting, but not every customer qualifies for the same promotion. Chick-fil-A says market-level giveaways apply to designated geographic areas, require location services to claim, and must be redeemed at participating restaurants during the applicable promotional period.

Expiration rules to remember: individual rewards have their own deadlines, and expired rewards cannot be restored, even though accumulated Chick-fil-A One reward points don’t expire. For customers who enjoy collecting discounts, the practical move is to review their available offers, participating locations, and expiration dates before making a special trip.

Chick-fil-A can still be a favorite, but comparing prices, checking hours, and understanding rewards restrictions can help you make a more informed choice for your next visit.
