Agave & Rye Among 5 New Restaurants Coming to Greater Cincinnati as Openings Begin This Week
Five new restaurant concepts are arriving or beginning service across Greater Cincinnati, but their opening timelines are not all the same. Some have scheduled September launches, one is planned for October 13, and others are still waiting on announced opening dates.
From Japanese cuisine in Madisonville to tacos and spirits in Pleasant Ridge, French-Belgian fare in Rookwood, New Orleans-style comfort food in Pendleton, and Italian imports in Mt. Lookout, these restaurants represent several different concepts coming to the area.
Agave & Rye opening in Pleasant Ridge
Northern Kentucky-based Epic Brands is bringing a fourth Agave & Rye location to Pleasant Ridge. The taco-and-spirits restaurant has a grand opening set for September 22.
The new location will include Agave & Rye on the main floor, Bad Rabbit Speakeasy on the basement level, and private dining upstairs. The restaurant will be located in Pleasant Ridge’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.
Jacques begins serving in Rookwood
Taste of Belgium is introducing Jacques, a new evening concept at its Rookwood location. The modern brasserie begins serving September 22 at 3825 Edwards Road.
The French-Belgian Restaurant Week menu includes escargots, steak frites, and crème brûlée. Reported hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Suzu brings contemporary Japanese dining to Madisonville
Contemporary Japanese restaurant Suzu, led by chef Makoto Okuwa, is scheduled to open October 13 at Madison Square in Cincinnati’s Madisonville neighborhood.
The approximately 6,000-square-foot restaurant is expected to seat about 200 people. Suzu will include Suzunone, a 12-seat Edo-style omakase counter, along with a cocktail bar.
The menu is expected to include shareable starters, sushi, rice and noodle dishes, and Japanese grill items. The opening timeline was pushed back after shipping delays involving construction materials and equipment.
Jimmie Lou’s expected in Pendleton
Chef and owner Jeffrey Harris is working to open Jimmie Lou’s at 1201 Broadway in Pendleton. The restaurant does not have a set grand-opening date but is expected to open in October.
The concept has featured New Orleans-style comfort food through pop-ups, including shrimp po’boys and bread pudding. The final menu had not yet been established, according to the reporting summarized in the brief.
VV Express planned for Mt. Lookout
The owners of VV the Italian Experience are nearing the opening of VV Express in Mt. Lookout Square, next door to the existing VV location.
The new project will offer more Italian imports and food, including wine, coffee, and gelato. No opening date has been announced.
