Connecticut’s New Food Hall Lets You Order Steak, Barbecue and Dessert in One Go

Spread the love

Dinner with a group can turn into a surprisingly long negotiation: someone wants barbecue, someone else wants pizza, and another person is already thinking about dessert. A new Wonder food hall in Canton, Connecticut, is built around a different approach: order dishes from multiple restaurant concepts in one transaction. The location at The Shops at Farmington Valley held a soft opening earlier this week and is scheduled to open for its grand opening on Thursday, October 1.

This is not a row of separate restaurants where everyone has to place a separate order. Wonder brings more than 20 concepts together through one ordering system, with options to dine in, pick up food, or request delivery. The Canton location is at 110 Albany Turnpike, offering Farmington Valley diners a new option to settle the “what’s for dinner?” debate with a menu rather than a vote.

One order, plenty of choices

The idea behind Wonder is straightforward: choose food from different restaurant menus, put it all in one order, and decide whether to eat there or take it elsewhere. The company says its chef and restaurant partners teach its team how to prepare their dishes, which Wonder locations then cook to order. That is an important distinction from a conventional food hall, where independent vendors typically operate their own individual stalls. Wonder presents the experience as multiple restaurant concepts under one roof and on one ordering platform.

Canton, with the announced lineup, includes concepts associated with chefs Bobby Flay, Marcus Samuelsson, Michael Symon and JJ Johnson. Tejas Barbecue, Magnolia Bakery and Smashburger are also among the names highlighted for the location. Across Wonder’s broader restaurant roster, categories range from steak and fried chicken to Mediterranean food, pizza, Mexican dishes, and desserts, though diners should check the Canton menu for what’s currently available.

Picture a group where one person wants a burger, another wants barbecue, and a third would happily skip ahead to something sweet. Wonder’s setup lets them browse different concepts without coordinating orders from multiple restaurants. That doesn’t mean every dish from every Wonder partner will always be available at the Canton location; menus can vary. The practical draw is combining different cravings into a single meal plan.

It also answers a common concern: what if you hear “ordering platform” and worry you will need to learn a new app while standing in line? Elizabeth Ackerman, general manager of The Shops at Farmington Valley, said staff would be available to help customers order and navigate the technology. “Wonder is bringing a completely new dining experience to the Farmington Valley, and we want everyone to feel comfortable trying it,” she said. According to Ackerman, that includes customers who are less familiar with app-based ordering.

The details before you go

Wonder’s Canton location  is in The Shops at Farmington Valley, an open-air retail center on Route 44. Its announced regular hours are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. You can eat on-site, arrange pickup, or order delivery, and Wonder says it does not charge a delivery fee. As with any order, review the checkout total and available delivery area before paying.

The opening has already had a preview period:  the Canton site held a soft opening from Monday, September 28, through Wednesday, September 30. Its official grand opening was scheduled for Thursday, October 1, with activities beginning at 10:15 a.m. Patch reported that the first 100 people in line would be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $250 Wonder gift card. The first 100 qualifying orders of at least $10 were also set to receive a gift with purchase, while supplies lasted.

For regular visits, the bigger question is likely what to order rather than what is happening on opening day. Wonder’s website lists restaurant concepts including Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, Yasas by Michael Symon, Bobby Flay Steak, Tejas Barbecue and Magnolia Bakery among its partners. That mix suggests the range behind the format, but the current Farmington Valley menu is the right place to confirm specific dishes and prices. A famous chef’s name on a concept doesn’t promise the chef will be cooking at the Canton counter.

Why this opening stands out

Wonder is expanding an existing Connecticut presence, not making its debut in the state. The company opened its first Connecticut locations in Stamford and Fairfield in early 2025 and has since added several others. Recent local reports differ on the precise statewide location count, so the clearest takeaway is that Canton joins a growing network rather than standing alone as an experimental first stop.

What makes this opening interesting is its answer to a familiar problem, not simply the number of names on the menu. A family or group can have genuinely different ideas about dinner and still order together for dine-in, pickup, or delivery. That doesn’t guarantee everyone will love every dish, but it does remove one obstacle: picking a single cuisine before anyone eats.

Canton diners can find Wonder at 110 Albany Turnpike, with daily hours announced from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Whether the order ends up being barbecue, a chef-branded entrée, dessert, or a little of each, the new food hall’s pitch is clear. Dinner does not have to be unanimous to be ordered together.
