McKinney’s KFC Open House Is Serving Breakfast, Boba and Table Service

KFC is trying something different in McKinney. The chicken chain has opened its first U.S. Open House restaurant, creating a test location where customers can find new menu ideas, more ordering options, and a dining experience that goes beyond the traditional drive-thru.

The KFC Open House opened Sept. 26 at 8751 Eldorado Parkway in McKinney. The 3,400-square-foot restaurant is designed as a place for KFC to experiment with new food, technology, and ways of serving customers.

For local diners, the biggest surprise may not be another chicken item. It is the mix of breakfast, specialty drinks, new sides, and table service being tested at this North Texas location.

A Different Kind of KFC Experience

The McKinney restaurant keeps many of the KFC items customers already know, including Original Recipe chicken, tenders, wings, sandwiches, and buckets.

But the Open House concept adds several features not typically associated with a standard KFC visit. Guests can order through kiosks, mobile pickup and drive-thru lanes, or choose table service inside the restaurant.

The location includes seating for up to 52 guests, two drive-thru lanes, a mobile-order pickup lane, kiosks, a photo booth, and a KFC merchandise bar.

The goal is not to replace traditional KFC restaurants. Instead, the McKinney location serves as a pilot where the company can explore new ideas in a real restaurant setting.

Breakfast Comes to KFC’s Test Kitchen

One of the biggest additions at the McKinney Open House is KFC’s first U.S. breakfast offering.

The breakfast menu includes breakfast sandwiches, Original Recipe tenders, Hashbrown Sticks, Mini Cronuts, coffee, and iced lattes.

Breakfast gives KFC a chance to serve customers during a different part of the day, rather than focusing only on lunch and dinner visits.

The company has not announced that the breakfast program will expand nationally. For now, the offering remains part of the McKinney test concept.

New Drinks, Sides and Custom Options

The experimental menu goes beyond chicken and breakfast. The Open House location also includes new items designed to give customers more variety.

Among the additions are Fried Green Beans, Spicy Pickles, boba refreshers, lemonades, Krunch shakes, and chocolate chunk cookies.

Customers can also customize how their chicken is served. Diners can choose sauces on the side or have chicken coated in sauce, with options including Kentucky BBQ, Buffalo, Ranch, Jalapeño Ranch, Sweet Heat Ranch, and Garlic Parmesan.

The expanded choices show how KFC is testing more customization alongside its familiar menu.

Why McKinney Was Chosen

The McKinney location offers KFC a nearby place to test ideas while remaining close to KFC U.S.’s Plano headquarters.

That proximity gives the company a practical setting to try menu additions, technology features, and customer-service changes.

The restaurant arrives as KFC continues looking for ways to stand out in a competitive U.S. chicken market. The Open House concept combines several trends in one location, including breakfast, specialty beverages, customizable food options, and more flexible ordering.

Still, KFC has not said that the McKinney menu, breakfast program, or table-service model will become standard across the country.

What Local Customers Should Know

The McKinney KFC Open House is a chance for North Texas diners to see what the chain is testing before any wider decisions are made.

Customers visiting the restaurant can expect familiar KFC staples alongside new items and ordering options that are not part of every KFC location.

The biggest takeaway is that this is a local experiment, not a nationwide KFC redesign. The McKinney restaurant offers a look at possible future directions for the brand, but KFC has not confirmed which ideas, if any, will expand beyond this location.

For local chicken fans, the Open House turns one McKinney restaurant into a place where KFC is exploring what the next version of the chain could look like.
