Meghan Markle Returns to Britain After Nearly Four Years
Meghan had not visited the United Kingdom since September 2022, when she and Harry were already in Europe for charity engagements, and she remained in Britain following Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Archie and Lilibet had not returned since the Platinum Jubilee three months earlier.
The children are now old enough for this trip to carry greater personal meaning. Archie is 7, and Lilibet is 5, compared with ages 3 and 1 during their previous visit. The King and Queen Camilla hosted Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet there on Friday afternoon. The Palace confirmed the meeting but did not release photographs or details about how long the family stayed, what was discussed, or whether the children exchanged gifts with their grandfather.
That privacy matters. Almost every major interaction involving Harry and the royal family since 2020 has been examined for hidden messages, seating arrangements, facial expressions, and signs of tension. By holding the reunion away from public view, the family prevented a personal meeting from becoming a media spectacle immediately.
The location may also have offered the King greater comfort as he continues managing his health. Charles disclosed his cancer diagnosis in February 2024 and later announced that his treatment schedule could be reduced following early diagnosis and medical intervention.
