This Florida suburb just became America’s hottest neighborhood for 2026

Land O’Lakes, Florida, is no longer just a quiet Tampa area suburb with room to grow. It is now the hottest neighborhood in America for 2026, according to a new Redfin report.

The ranking puts the Pasco County community ahead of Plant City, Florida; Oak Creek, Wisconsin; Oceanside, New York; and several Midwest suburbs that are quickly gaining attention from homebuyers.

Redfin said Land O’Lakes took the top spot after listing views nearly doubled, and home sales jumped sharply from a year earlier. The median sale price in the area was $425,000, up 7.6 percent year over year, while home sales rose 35.9 percent.

That combination tells a larger story about the 2026 housing market. Buyers are still watching prices closely, but many are not giving up on space, schools, newer homes, parks, or access to major job markets. They are simply looking farther outside the most expensive urban centers to find them.

Land O’Lakes sits about 20 miles north of Tampa, giving residents access to a major metro without the tighter, denser feel of the city. Redfin pointed to the area’s mix of new construction, established neighborhoods, parks, public schools, and relaxed lifestyle as part of its appeal.

The list also shows that Florida remains a powerful draw, even as the state’s migration boom has slowed since its pandemic-era peak. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Florida’s net domestic migration fell to 22,517 in 2025, down from 183,646 in 2023 and 310,892 in 2022. That makes Land O’Lakes’ rise more notable, because it suggests buyers are becoming more selective rather than simply rushing into Florida at any price.

Why it matters

This ranking is not just about one Florida suburb getting national attention. It shows where many Americans look when big-city prices feel too high, mortgage rates remain painful, and the dream of owning a home feels harder to reach.

Redfin’s top 10 list was dominated by places that offer a familiar promise: more room, lower pressure, and enough access to a nearby city to keep work, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment within reach. Six of the top 10 neighborhoods were in the Midwest, which suggests affordability is becoming one of the strongest forces in the housing market.

That is what makes Land O’Lakes stand out. It is not a flashy beachfront market or a luxury vacation town. It is the kind of suburb many buyers can imagine building a daily life in. The attraction is not just sunshine. It is space, value, and the feeling that a home purchase can still make sense.

Plant City, Florida, ranked second with a median sale price of $320,000. That is far below many coastal Florida markets, and Redfin said buyers are noticing the chance to get more house and more land while staying within reach of Tampa and Orlando.

Oak Creek, Wisconsin, ranked third. Its median sale price was $381,200, and 38 percent of homes sold above list price, showing strong competition. Like Land O’Lakes, Oak Creek gives buyers access to a larger metro, in this case, Milwaukee, while offering a more suburban lifestyle.

The New York area also appeared on the list, but with a different kind of appeal. Oceanside, New York, ranked fourth with a median sale price of $725,000, and Little Neck in Queens ranked eighth with a median sale price of $796,500. These markets are not cheap, but they offer access to New York City while giving buyers a quieter residential feel.

The most striking aspect of Redfin’s ranking is that buyers are not following a single pattern. Some are chasing affordability in the Midwest. Some are looking for value in Florida communities outside the most crowded coastal areas. Others are paying a premium to stay close to New York without living in the middle of Manhattan.

Still, the common thread is clear. Buyers want balance. They want homes that feel livable, neighborhoods that feel calm, and locations that do not cut them off from jobs or amenities.

For Land O’Lakes, the new attention could be a blessing and a warning. More interest can lift home values and bring new businesses, but it can also increase pressure on roads, schools, and housing supply. The same qualities that made the area attractive can become harder to preserve if growth outpaces local infrastructure.

That is the challenge facing many suburbs now rising on national housing lists. They are being discovered because they offer relief from expensive, crowded markets. Once demand surges, they must manage growth carefully or risk becoming less affordable themselves.

For homebuyers, the message is simple. The hottest places in America are not always the biggest names. Sometimes they are the communities just outside the spotlight, where buyers believe they can still find space, value, and a better version of everyday life.

For 2026, Redfin says Land O’Lakes is leading that shift. And if the housing market keeps pushing buyers toward suburbs with access, affordability, and breathing room, it may not be the last lesser-known community to suddenly become a national name.
