Target Is Adding 8 New Stores This Fall, and Your Next Target Run Could Be a Lot Closer
Target is giving shoppers eight new places to put “just one more thing” in their carts this fall. The retailer’s latest expansion spans six states, with locations ranging from its biggest store in Mississippi to a coastal-inspired outpost in New York’s Hamptons. But there’s an important catch in the calendar: Seven stores are scheduled to open Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, while the eighth, in Lima, Ohio, will open Nov. 8.
The new stores are coming to Mississippi, New York, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Ohio, completing the final group of more than 30 openings Target planned for 2026. This is not a lineup of identical buildings, either. Some locations feature expanded fresh-food selections, two Texas stores have covered pickup lanes, and Bridgehampton’s design reflects its community’s coastal character. Here’s where the doors are opening, what shoppers will find, and why these additions matter beyond another place to browse.
Where the New Stores Are Opening

Mississippi gets a particularly big addition at 1130 Woodford Way in Tupelo. At approximately 148,000 square feet, the location will be Target’s largest store in the state and its first in the Tupelo area. It is expected to employ about 200 people and will include a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café, Drive Up, and Order Pickup. The Oct. 11 opening will bring Target’s Mississippi store count to seven, giving the city a new option for combining everyday shopping with a coffee stop.
New York’s addition is smaller, but it has a distinctive local touch. The approximately 90,000-square-foot Bridgehampton store at 2102 Montauk Highway will become Target’s 109th location in the state when it opens Oct. 11. The store is expected to employ about 140 people, with a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café, pickup services and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360.
In Tennessee, the new Cookeville store opens Oct. 11 at 1100 S. Willow Avenue. The approximately 128,000-square-foot location is expected to employ 150 people and will feature Target’s newest fresh-food assortment, including produce, meat, and dairy. Shoppers will also find a Starbucks Café, Drive Up, Order Pickup, and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360. Cookeville will become the retailer’s 32nd Tennessee store, adding a grocery-focused element to the familiar Target shopping experience.
Texas gets three of the eight locations, all scheduled for Oct. 11 and each measuring approximately 148,000 square feet. Fort Worth Chisholm Trail is at 5900 Retail Way, Katy Heritage is at 29355 Katy Freeway, and Liberty Hill is at 353 US Highway 183. All three will feature expanded fresh-food selections, CVS pharmacies, and Starbucks cafés. Fort Worth and Katy will also have Target Optical and canopies over their Drive Up lanes, while Katy Heritage becomes the retailer’s fourth store in that market.
Virginia’s new Norfolk Wards Corner store opens Oct. 11 at 201 E. Little Creek Road. The approximately 129,000-square-foot location is expected to employ more than 140 people and will include a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café, and pickup and delivery services. It will be Norfolk’s second Target, joining the location at 1245 N. Military Highway, which marks its 30th anniversary this year. For local shoppers, the expansion adds another option rather than replacing the existing store.
Ohio shoppers have a different date to circle. Lima’s approximately 128,000-square-foot Target at 2600 Elida Road is scheduled to open Nov. 8, not Oct. 11. It will feature an expanded selection of produce, meat and dairy, plus a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café, Drive Up, Order Pickup, and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360. Expected to employ more than 140 people, the location will become Target’s 66th store in Ohio.
What Shoppers Can Expect Inside
The biggest common feature is, quite literally, size. Seven of the eight new stores exceed Target’s average footprint of 125,000 square feet, with Bridgehampton the exception. Target says thelarger locations support expanded assortments, while several stores in this group specifically emphasize fresh groceries. Cookeville, Fort Worth, Katy, Liberty Hill and Lima all have fresh-food offerings highlighted in the company’s announcement, putting produce, meat and dairy firmly in the spotlight.
The convenience features are worth checking store by store rather than assuming every location offers the same lineup. All eight list Drive Up and Order Pickup, but Tupelo’s announcement does not list Target Circle 360 same-day delivery among its services. Starbucks cafés appear across the entire group, while Cookeville’s listing does not include a CVS Pharmacy. Target also lists next-day delivery for Fort Worth, Katy, Liberty Hill, and Norfolk, along with same-day options at those stores.
Opening-day hours vary, too, so an early Target run will depend on the address. Bridgehampton opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m., while Fort Worth’s Sunday hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tupelo, Cookeville, Liberty Hill and Norfolk are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that Sunday; Katy runs from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Lima’s Sunday hours, when it opens Nov. 8, will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Target Is Going Bigger

These openings are part of Target’s $5 billion capital investment plan for 2026, which also supports more than 130 store remodels. The retailer says it is investing hundreds of millions more in store payroll and training, alongside its physical expansion. “These new stores represent our continued investment in the places our guests live, work and shop,” Laurie Mahowald, senior vice president of Target Properties, told Fox Business, describing the openings as part of a broader effort to improve the shopping experience.
Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo tied the expansion directly to employees and communities. “Our continued commitment to opening new stores is really about showing up for our guests and our communities and it starts with our incredible store team members,” she said in Target’s announcement. The company lists a starting wage range of $15 to $24 an hour, depending on role and location, along with benefits and tuition-free education assistance. Individual store staffing estimates vary across the eight locations.
The buildings also do more than welcome shoppers through the front doors. Target says its stores fulfill 95% of its digital orders, making new locations part of its online-shopping operation as well as its retail footprint. “These new stores give our teams the tools and environments to bring our merchandising strengths to life, create easier and more inspiring shopping experiences, and use technology to move smarter and faster every day,” Costanzo said. The eight additions are part of Target’s plan to build more than 300 new stores by 2035.
