Coca-Cola says New Coke Zero and Sprite Zero Versions Are Coming to New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania

A new group of zero-sugar sodas is heading to parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania later this month, but shoppers should not expect to find them at every store.

The Coca-Cola Company plans to begin a limited regional test in late October featuring new versions of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar and Fresca. Each drink is formulated with zero sugar and 6 grams of prebiotic fiber as the company tests how consumers respond to the new formulas.

For shoppers in the three states, the greatest detail is that this is a limited test, not a nationwide rollout. Coca-Cola has not released a complete list of participating cities, retailers, or ZIP codes.

Coca-Cola says the regional test will begin in late October and will cover parts of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The company describes the move as a “regional prebiotic test-and-learn,” giving it an opportunity to see how consumers respond to the new versions before deciding what comes next.

That means shoppers should not interpret the announcement as a permanent addition to the national soda aisle. The pilot is specifically designed to evaluate consumer response, and Coca-Cola has not said that these versions will eventually be sold nationwide.

For people outside the selected markets, there is also no indication from the brief that the drinks will be available locally.

Coke Zero, Sprite Zero and Fresca Are Included

The test covers three familiar Coca-Cola brands: Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar and Fresca.

The company says each version contains zero sugar and 6 grams of prebiotic fiber. Coca-Cola described the products as “Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar and Fresca, each formulated with 6 grams of prebiotic fiber and zero sugar.”

That formulation is the key difference in this particular test. Rather than introducing an entirely unfamiliar soda brand, Coca-Cola is experimenting with new versions of drinks consumers may already recognize.

It is also important not to describe the products as health drinks or make claims about what the added fiber might do. The confirmed information is limited to the formulation itself.

Regular Coke and Sprite Are Not Being Reformulated

If you already have a favorite regular Coca-Cola or Sprite, this announcement does not mean the standard versions are being changed.

The test applies to Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar, and Fresca. It does not reformulate original Coca-Cola or regular Sprite.

That distinction could matter for shoppers who hear about the new products and assume a broader recipe change is coming to the soda aisle.

For now, the new formulas are simply part of a regional experiment.

Not Every Store Will Carry Them

The biggest practical question for shoppers may be where they can actually find the drinks.

Coca-Cola has confirmed that the pilot will be available on a limited basis across parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It has not provided a full list of participating retailers, cities, or ZIP codes.

So being in one of those three states does not necessarily mean the drinks will be available at a nearby supermarket or convenience store.

That also means shoppers should avoid assuming that a store carrying Coca-Cola Zero Sugar or Sprite Zero Sugar will automatically receive the new versions.

This Is Separate From Coca-Cola’s Other 2027 Plans

The prebiotic-soda test is also separate from Coca-Cola’s broader 2027 product innovations.

That distinction helps put the announcement in context. The three drinks are being tested regionally while the company evaluates consumer response, rather than being presented as part of an immediate nationwide product rollout.

The company has not announced that the test versions will replace the existing Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar, or Fresca formulas.

For now, the pilot is exactly that: a limited test.

What Shoppers Should Watch For

People in participating parts of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania may begin seeing the new versions in stores toward the end of October.

The most useful thing to check will be the product label and exact beverage name. Since Coca-Cola is testing new versions of existing brands, shoppers should pay attention to whether they are buying the standard drink or one of the regional test products.

It will also be worth checking the individual retailer before making a special trip. Coca-Cola has not announced blanket statewide availability, and the participating locations have not been fully identified.

Prices and package sizes have not been confirmed in the available information either, so shoppers should wait for local listings rather than relying on assumptions about what the new drinks will cost.

Coca-Cola Will Be Watching the Response

The company says the pilot will allow it to evaluate consumer response. That leaves the future of the new versions open.

They could remain limited to the test markets, lead to further experimentation, or eventually receive a broader rollout, but none of those outcomes has been confirmed.

For now, the news is much narrower: Coca-Cola is testing new zero-sugar versions of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Sprite Zero Sugar, and Fresca with 6 grams of prebiotic fiber in parts of three states beginning in late October.

For shoppers in those markets, it may be worth keeping an eye on local store shelves. For everyone else, this is a test to watch rather than a national menu change.
