Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s or Popeyes: Whose Customers Are Happiest? New Rankings Reveal the Winner

America loves a good chicken sandwich, but which fast-food chain actually leaves customers the happiest? Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s, and Popeyes have become familiar names in the competitive chicken-restaurant business, each offering its own take on a convenient meal. New customer satisfaction rankings now reveal which chain is winning over diners and which one still has some catching up to do.

The 2026 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Restaurant and Food Delivery Study, released June 16, offers a revealing look at how Americans rate their restaurant experiences. Based on 16,464 completed customer surveys collected between April 2025 and March 2026, the findings show noticeable differences among popular chicken chains. While one familiar favorite continues to dominate the chicken category, another increasingly prominent competitor has earned a respectable position.

Chick-fil-A continues to lead the chicken restaurant category, earning a customer satisfaction score of 83 out of 100 in the 2026 ACSI study. That puts it four points ahead of Raising Cane’s and 10 points ahead of Popeyes. Its score also remained unchanged from 2025, demonstrating stability in an increasingly competitive restaurant market.

However, Chick-fil-A did experience one significant change in the overall fast-food rankings. After holding the top spot among quick-service restaurants for 11 consecutive years, Jersey Mike’s overtook it, entering the rankings with a score of 84. Nevertheless, Chick-fil-A remained the highest-rated chicken chain in the study.

For customers who frequently choose chicken over burgers or sandwiches, the results provide an interesting comparison. Chick-fil-A’s score of 83 is four points higher than the overall quick-service restaurant industry average of 79. That distinction makes it one of the strongest performers in the broader fast-food sector.

Raising Cane’s Makes a Strong First Impression

Raising Cane’s entered the ACSI rankings in 2026 with a customer satisfaction score of 79 out of 100. Although it trails Chick-fil-A, its debut score matches the overall quick-service restaurant industry average. The chain also finished ahead of Popeyes, suggesting that it has established a competitive position among the chicken restaurants included in the study.

One important detail is that the published 2025 ACSI brand rankings did not include Raising Cane’s. Consequently, the 2026 results cannot establish whether its customer satisfaction improved or declined from the previous year. The findings do confirm that Raising Cane’s now ranks among the evaluated chicken chains alongside established competitors such as Chick-fil-A, KFC, and Popeyes.

Its score also places Raising Cane’s just one point behind KFC, which received an 80. This shows how closely some chicken chains compete on customer satisfaction. Even a small score difference can affect a restaurant’s ranking.

Popeyes Falls Behind Its Chicken Competitors

Popeyes received a customer satisfaction score of 73 in the 2026 study, placing it behind Chick-fil-A, KFC, Raising Cane’s and Wingstop. This represents a decline from its 2025 score of 75. According to ACSI, that’s a 3% decrease in customer satisfaction.

The gap between Popeyes and its competitors is particularly noticeable when compared with Chick-fil-A. The difference stands at 10 points on the 100-point satisfaction scale, while Raising Cane’s leads Popeyes by six points. These figures don’t mean every Popeyes customer is dissatisfied, but they show that its overall customer satisfaction rating trails several major chicken competitors.

Popeyes also finished below the overall quick-service restaurant industry average of 79. That matters because the industry average remained stable for the third consecutive year, even as individual brands experienced changes. While several competitors maintained or improved their ratings, Popeyes moved in the opposite direction.

What the Rankings Reveal About Customer Expectations

The ACSI findings suggest that satisfying fast-food customers involves more than simply offering an appealing menu. Researchers identified consistency, order accuracy, and the overall restaurant experience as important factors in determining customer satisfaction. The 2026 study also recorded improvements in order accuracy and several in-store experience measures across the quick-service restaurant industry.

Price remains another important consideration as Americans evaluate their dining choices. According to ACSI, U.S. chain restaurant sales increased by 3% in 2025, below the 3.8% menu-price inflation rate. That comparison highlights the financial pressures facing both restaurant operators and customers.

The report also found that quick-service restaurant satisfaction held steady at 79, while full-service restaurants maintained a higher industry score of 82. These results suggest customer expectations remain high across restaurant formats. Restaurants must compete not only on what they serve, but also on the reliability and quality of the overall experience.

So, Which Chicken Chain Has the Happiest Customers?

The answer is Chick-fil-A, according to the latest ACSI results. Its score of 83 puts it ahead of Raising Cane’s (79) and Popeyes (73), making it the clear winner among the three chains. Raising Cane’s earns second place in this comparison, while Popeyes finishes third.

Still, the rankings measure overall customer satisfaction rather than determining which restaurant makes the best-tasting chicken. Individual preferences, local restaurant experiences, and menu choices can all influence where someone prefers to eat. For now, however, the national survey gives Chick-fil-A the strongest customer satisfaction record among these three popular competitors.
