Popeyes Is Bringing Back a Fan Favorite, but Not for Long

Spread the love

Popeyes is bringing back a Thanksgiving favorite, but shoppers have a limited time to order it. The chain’s popular Cajun-Style Turkey returned on October 19, 2026, with prices starting at $59.99 and online preorders closing November 19.

The return comes as Americans prepare for another turkey-centered holiday. Butterball’s 2026 Togetherness Report found that 84% of Thanksgiving hosts plan to serve turkey, while 85% of Americans surveyed expect to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

Cajun-Style Turkey is the seasonal favorite making its return. Popeyes marinates and seasons the whole bird with Louisiana-inspired Cajun spices before cooking it. Customers receive the turkey frozen and must thaw and reheat it before serving.

Each turkey weighs about 11 to 13 pounds and serves eight to 12 people with side dishes.

The offering isn’t new to Popeyes. The company has sold cooked Thanksgiving turkeys nationwide since 2001, giving customers an alternative to preparing a traditional turkey from scratch. Unlike the chain’s familiar chicken sandwiches and individual meals, this seasonal offering is designed for sharing around the holiday table.

Why the Return Matters to Thanksgiving Shoppers

Holiday convenience is one reason a prepared turkey may appeal to families hosting larger gatherings.

Butterball’s 2026 Togetherness Report, based on a July survey of 1,374 U.S. adults, found that Thanksgiving celebrations are expected to average 10 people this year.

The report also revealed that 85% of hosts want guests to help with preparations, but only 38% actually ask.  Rebecca Welch, Butterball’s director of retail and international brand management, said the findings show that “a little support can go a long way.”

Popeyes offers one way to simplify the main course. The turkey arrives cooked and seasoned, leaving customers to thaw, reheat, and prepare their preferred sides. For households balancing several Thanksgiving dishes, that difference may be worth considering.

How Much Does the Popeyes Turkey Cost?

The starting price is $59.99, though Popeyes says prices vary by restaurant and how you buy. That represents a $5 increase from the advertised starting restaurant pickup price of $54.99 in 2025. Actual costs may differ depending on where customers order.

The turkey will also be available through participating Kroger-family grocery stores in select markets across 33 states. Grocery prices are expected to range from $59.99 to $69.99, depending on the store division.

Shoppers with access to both options can compare local prices before ordering to find the better deal. The advertised prices cover the turkey itself, not an entire Thanksgiving dinner. Side dishes must be purchased separately.

Where Customers Can Buy the Returning Turkey

Participating Popeyes restaurants are the primary pickup locations. Customers can preorder through the Popeyes app or website, select a participating restaurant, and choose an available pickup date. Some locations may also accommodate in-person purchases or reservations, depending on availability.

Kroger-family grocery stores offer another option in select markets. Participating chains include Dillons, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry’s, King Soopers, QFC, Roundy’s, and Smith’s.

However, shoppers should contact their local store to confirm availability. There is also an important change from last year’s offering. Popeyes offered shipping in 2025, but its official 2026 FAQ confirms that shipping and delivery won’t be available this year.

Customers ordering through restaurants must collect their turkeys in person.

What to Know Before Preparing the Turkey

The fully cooked turkey still requires some planning before Thanksgiving dinner.

According to Popeyes, customers should allow 72 hours to thaw in the refrigerator while keeping the bird in its sealed packaging. The company provides specific reheating instructions that should be followed before serving.

Popeyes also suggests using the turkey’s pan drippings to prepare Cajun-style gravy. A recipe is available on the chain’s official turkey website.

Customers can buy side dishes separately to complete their holiday spread with additional Popeyes favorites. The company’s seasonal announcement highlights Homestyle Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potatoes with Cajun Gravy, and buttermilk biscuits among the available options.

Customers comparing Popeyes with a complete holiday meal package should factor in the cost of those extra purchases.

The Ordering Deadline Is November 19

Online preorders opened October 19, and restaurant pickups begin October 23, 2026. Popeyes says new orders through its app and website close beginning November 19. Customers who order before the deadline can still collect their turkeys afterward on their confirmed pickup dates.

Supplies are limited, and availability varies by location.

Another detail worth checking is the pickup schedule. Customers cannot change their selected pickup window directly through the ordering system, although they can contact the restaurant about possible arrangements. Popeyes Rewards members who place qualifying preorders through their accounts can also earn 10 points for every dollar spent.

Ordering information and participating restaurant options are available through the official Popeyes turkey website.

Why Turkey Remains a Thanksgiving Favorite

Turkey remains central to American Thanksgiving celebrations, even as shoppers explore different ways to prepare their holiday meals.

Butterball’s 2026 report found that 45% of surveyed consumers named turkey their favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner. Stuffing followed at 42%, while pie received 29%. The report also found that 64% of consumers were most looking forward to spending time with family.

Those preferences help explain the appeal of prepared holiday dishes. Customers can choose which parts of the meal they want to handle themselves without giving up familiar Thanksgiving traditions. Popeyes’ returning Cajun-Style Turkey provides another option for shoppers who prefer a seasoned, fully cooked main dish.

Interested customers can take the next step: check local availability, compare prices, and place an order before the November 19 deadline.
