Docent Steak Opens in Dallas’ Harwood District
Dallas diners have two separate food developments to keep on their radar this week. The State Fair of Texas is underway at Fair Park with new vendors, concepts, and dishes for 2026, while Docent Steak is opening October 1 in the Harwood District.
The State Fair runs from September 25 through October 18, giving visitors several weeks to try this year’s food lineup. Meanwhile, the Docent Steak opening adds a new sit-down option at 2801 N. Harwood St., Suite 100, in Dallas.
New foods are part of this year’s State Fair

The State Fair of Texas announced four new food vendors, four new concepts from existing concessionaires, and dozens of new dishes for 2026.
According to the State Fair’s new-food announcement, the lineup includes foods spread across different locations inside Fair Park. Rather than requiring visitors to focus on one part of the fairgrounds, the announcement identifies where individual vendors and dishes can be found.
The fair is taking place at Fair Park in Dallas through October 18, so these foods are temporary offerings tied to the 2026 State Fair season.
Some of the new foods have very different flavors
Among the new vendors is Thee Kitchen Beast, which is serving honey-garlic-drizzled fried broccoli. The State Fair’s announcement places Thee Kitchen Beast on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Another option is fried butter chicken from Naan Better. Visitors looking for that dish can find the vendor on Grand Avenue. HGG Tanghulu is another addition to the lineup, with sugar-coated fruit skewers sold at the Tower Building.
Those three dishes offer a small sample of a much larger list. The State Fair says dozens of new dishes are part of the 2026 event, along with the four new vendors and four new concepts from returning concessionaires.
For visitors trying to plan what they want to eat, the State Fair’s official 2026 food announcement provides the locations tied to the announced offerings.
The fair’s food awards add another point of interest
The annual food lineup also includes dishes recognized through the State Fair’s Big Tex Choice Awards.
According to the fair’s official announcement of the 2026 award winners, Burger Chop Tater Tacos received the Best Taste–Savory award.
Fletcher’s Chocolate Corny Dog was named the Best Taste–Sweet winner. Those titles are the State Fair’s official award designations rather than a general ranking of every food available during the event.

Docent Steak opens in the Harwood District
Away from Fair Park, another Dallas food development is happening October 1.
Dallas Voice reported October 1 that Docent Steak was opening that day in the Harwood District.
The restaurant is located at 2801 N. Harwood St., Suite 100, Dallas, according to Docent Steak’s official location page.
That makes the restaurant opening a different type of food option from the State Fair lineup. The fair foods are available during the September 25–October 18 event, while Docent Steak is a new sit-down steakhouse in the Harwood District.
What Docent Steak is bringing to the table
Docent Steak describes its concept around several elements, including its HWD Beef program, Kobe beef, seafood, and wine.
The restaurant also incorporates art from the Barbier-Mueller Collection as part of its concept, according to Docent Steak’s description of the restaurant.
The HWD Beef selections are also intended to include cuts that may be less commonly seen on steakhouse menus. The Dallas Morning News reported that examples include coulotte, picanha, and hanger steak.
Those details help define what Docent Steak is offering without putting it in direct comparison with the State Fair. The two developments serve different occasions and formats.
For Dallas-area diners, the immediate takeaway is straightforward: the State Fair of Texas is currently serving its 2026 collection of new vendors, concepts and dishes at Fair Park, while Docent Steak is opening October 1 in the Harwood District.
One is a temporary food experience tied to the State Fair’s September 25–October 18 run. The other is a new Dallas steakhouse built around HWD Beef, Kobe beef, seafood, wine, and art. Together, they give local diners two distinct food developments to know about right now.
