Which Golden Corral Locations Have Closed in 2026? Here’s What We Know So Far
Another Golden Corral gone? At least six Golden Corral restaurants across six states have closed in 2026, and the company acknowledges that closures have been more frequent than usual this year. But there’s an important distinction: Golden Corral is not shutting down nationwide, and the company says it still operates 330 restaurants while pursuing six new locations.
The closures come as Americans continue facing higher restaurant prices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for food away from home increased 3.5% in the 12 months ending September 2026. That broader trend provides context for the pressures restaurants face, although the reasons behind Golden Corral’s individual closures vary.
Which Golden Corral Locations Have Closed in 2026?

Local newspapers and television stations report six Golden Corral locations that have permanently closed this year. Some operated for decades, while others faced lease issues, staffing challenges, or rising costs.
Here’s a closer look at the confirmed closures, including when they happened and what operators have publicly explained.
Canton, Ohio
The Golden Corral at 4910 Dressler Road NW closed on February 1, 2026, after serving the Canton area since 2002. Franchise owner Nikki Zehner confirmed the closure but did not publicly disclose the reason. Speaking to the Canton Repository, she said, “It’s sad. We had a really good run here.” Some employees were expected to pursue positions at the Golden Corral in Akron.
Alton, Illinois
The restaurant at 350 Homer M. Adams Parkway permanently closed on April 23, a week earlier than its originally announced April 30 closing date. Management initially said the business could no longer operate sustainably, but staffing difficulties forced the earlier shutdown. The Telegraph reported that posted notices confirmed the restaurant could no longer maintain enough staff to continue serving customers.
Davenport, Iowa
The Golden Corral at 5202 Elmore Avenue closed on July 6, ending a run that began in 1998. Local television station KWQC reported that the restaurant confirmed its final operating date in late June. No specific reason for the closure was publicly disclosed, so claims that rising rent or declining sales caused it remain unverified.
Boynton Beach, Florida
Golden Corral’s 389 Winchester Park Boulevard location closed on July 26 after about 20 years. According to reporting by The Palm Beach Post, the restaurant cited an expiring lease and operational changes. The closure was specific to this restaurant, not an announcement that Golden Corral was leaving Florida.
Boise, Idaho
After roughly 25 years, the Golden Corral on West Emerald Street permanently closed by September 1. Notices posted at the restaurant confirmed the shutdown, although no reason was provided. Customers still have another Idaho location in Nampa, at 2122 North Cassia Street, which remains listed on Golden Corral’s official website.
Brownsville, Texas
The Golden Corral at 4555 North Expressway 77/83 closed on September 14 after approximately 35 years serving Brownsville. Franchise owner Gaspar Hernandez told MySA that required renovations and sharply rising rental expenses influenced the decision. Hernandez said monthly rent was expected to rise from $17,500 to $31,000, a substantial jump for an established restaurant.
Why Are Some Golden Corral Restaurants Closing?
No single explanation accounts for all six shutdowns.
Golden Corral told USA TODAY on October 14 that 99% of its 330 restaurants are operated by independent franchisees. That matters because individual owners face different property costs, lease agreements, staffing situations, and business decisions.
Brownsville offers one of the clearest examples. Hernandez told MySA that renovations and a major rent increase made it difficult to continue operating. Discussing the business outlook, he said, “We just didn’t see a light at the end of that tunnel.”
Alton faced a different problem. Its owners had already announced the restaurant could not continue operating sustainably, but staffing shortages ultimately ended service earlier than planned.
These examples help explain why closures cannot automatically be attributed to one nationwide problem.
Is Golden Corral Going Out of Business?
Despite the recent shutdowns, Golden Corral still operates hundreds of restaurants. According to the company’s October figures reported by USA TODAY, Texas has 47 operating Golden Corral locations, Florida has 31, and North Carolina has 26. The company also operates restaurants across numerous other states and Puerto Rico.
Golden Corral’s leadership has emphasized its plans to grow rather than withdraw from the market.
The chain has also been adapting its business model. In 2025, it announced that average restaurant sales had increased 31% compared with 2019, illustrating the recovery and growth the company had experienced before this year’s closures. That figure is a systemwide historical comparison, not evidence that every franchise remains profitable.
Golden Corral Has Six New Restaurants in Development
While longtime locations have been closing, Golden Corral has announced plans to expand into several markets. In its April 30 announcement, the company identified two restaurants under construction in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Kissimmee, Florida.
Four additional restaurants were in pre-construction development in Baytown, Texas; St. Petersburg, Florida; Spanish Fort, Alabama; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The company reaffirmed those development plans in its October communication with USA TODAY.
Golden Corral CEO Lance Trenary explained the company’s direction in the April announcement, saying, “We believe that Golden Corral’s strongest growth opportunities are still ahead of us.”
Importantly, these are development plans, not confirmations that all six restaurants have opened. Exact opening dates have not been established for each location.
The company has also said some previously closed restaurants could eventually reopen under different franchise owners. However, no specific reopening dates have been confirmed for the six locations discussed here.
How to Check Whether Your Local Golden Corral Is Still Open
If you have a favorite Golden Corral nearby, start with the company’s official restaurant location directory. The directory provides restaurant addresses, phone numbers, and location-specific information. You can check whether your nearest restaurant is listed and contact it directly before you go.
That extra check is especially worthwhile when a location has recently announced changes or when online listings conflict.
For now, Golden Corral’s confirmed 2026 closures are individual restaurant shutdowns, not a nationwide closure announcement. The chain continues to open new locations, even as some familiar neighborhood buffets have served their final customers.
