Two Florida residents are headed to federal prison after prosecutors say they took part in a violent jewelry store robbery that resulted in the theft of about $1.3 million worth of high-end jewelry during a hotel exhibition in Tampa.

Gina Parra-Martinez, 39, and Diego Ramirez-Aldana, 29, were sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to their roles in the robbery, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle.

Prosecutors said the robbery took place in March 2024 when a jewelry vendor was visiting Tampa for an exhibition event near the University of South Florida area. The vendor had been displaying expensive pieces at a hotel when the group allegedly targeted the shipment.

According to court records, the victim and a relative were returning to their hotel after the exhibition when they took a rideshare. That is when the robbery plot unfolded.

Authorities said Ramirez-Aldana, Parra-Martinez, and several co-conspirators followed the victim and later carried out the robbery, stealing an estimated $1.3 million in jewelry.

Investigators said the group worked together as part of a coordinated plan that involved surveillance of the vendor and timed the theft to target the jewelry while it was in transit between the event and the hotel.

Both defendants later admitted guilt in federal court. Parra-Martinez was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison. Ramirez-Aldana received a sentence of five years and one month. Federal prosecutors said additional co-conspirators were also involved in the robbery.

U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the sentencing, highlighting the scale of the theft and the operation’s organized nature.

The FBI and Tampa Police Department assisted in the investigation, which prosecutors say helped identify multiple individuals connected to the robbery network.

Officials said cases like this highlight how organized crews often target traveling vendors and high-value exhibitions, where large amounts of jewelry can be moved outside of secure retail environments.

This case underscores a growing pattern of organized jewelry-theft operations targeting exhibitions, hotels, and traveling vendors rather than traditional storefronts. Authorities say these crimes are often planned in advance, using surveillance and coordinated timing to intercept high-value merchandise.

It also highlights how quickly large-scale financial losses can occur in minutes when luxury goods are transported outside secure environments. Prosecutors say the theft not only involved millions of dollars in merchandise but also affected small-business vendors who rely on trade shows and exhibitions for income.
