A devastating crash on a Parker County highway has left a Texas family grieving after two women were killed and two others suffered serious injuries. Authorities say the driver accused of causing the collision was operating a vehicle without a valid license and is now facing criminal charges.

The crash happened on June 27 along State Highway 171, northwest of the Cresson and Highway 377 area. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 24-year-old Skyler Davis was driving a pickup truck at a high speed when he struck the back of a vehicle waiting to make a left turn.

The impact triggered a chain reaction that sent one vehicle into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by another car carrying three women.

Davis has since been arrested and faces charges including serious bodily injury causing death and driving without a valid license. His next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1.

The victims have been identified as Dorthey McGee and Claudie Walton, two women whose deaths have left their family struggling to cope with an unexpected tragedy.

Pearl Miles, McGee’s daughter and Walton’s granddaughter, said the days following the crash have been painful and unpredictable.

ā€œEvery day is different, tougher than others, but I’m leaning on my family, leaning on Jesus,ā€ Miles said.

McGee was remembered as a dedicated caregiver who spent years helping others. She was also known for driving disabled residents to polling locations so they could participate in elections.

Walton was remembered as a woman of faith who was known for her kindness, homemade jams, and charitable work in her community.

Their family said they want people to remember the lives they lived rather than only the circumstances of their deaths.

ā€œI think the character and the people who they were, that they need to be talked about, and their love and joy needs to be spread with others, counting all the lives they touched,ā€ Miles said.

The collision involved three vehicles and caused life-threatening injuries for several people.

Investigators say Davis’ pickup truck slammed into the rear of a Hyundai Kona that was stopped while attempting to turn left. The force of the crash pushed the Hyundai into opposing traffic, where it collided with a Chevrolet Malibu.

McGee, Walton, and Leslie Walton were inside the Chevrolet Malibu at the time of the crash.

Leslie Walton survived but suffered severe injuries. Her family said she suffered multiple broken limbs and continues to face a difficult recovery.

ā€œShe broke all her limbs, basically,ā€ Miles said. ā€œHer seat belt wound had basically cut her in half, is what the nurses are telling us.ā€

The driver of the Hyundai, Alex Nunez, also survived the crash and suffered serious injuries. Nunez had recently moved to North Texas from Puerto Rico.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.

As authorities continue their investigation, Miles said her family is focused on healing while also seeking accountability.

She said she has tried not to focus on the person accused of causing the crash but acknowledged the pain surrounding the situation.

ā€œObviously, it hurts knowing that he’s not really being held accountable to the extent we think he could be or should be,ā€ Miles said.

She added that she understands the legal process is still moving forward.

ā€œI know it’s under investigation, so I’m just trying to say it’s in God’s hands. He has a plan,ā€ she said.

Davis remains at the center of the criminal case as prosecutors prepare for the next steps. His charges include allegations related to the deaths and injuries caused by the crash.

Community Rallies Behind Survivors and Victims’ Legacy

In the aftermath of the tragedy, friends and community members have stepped forward to support the family.

Close friends recently placed crosses near the crash site to honor McGee and Walton and remember the impact they had on others.

A memorial fundraiser is also planned at VFW Post 6111 in Arlington to help support Leslie Walton during her recovery. The event is scheduled for Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

For the family, the focus remains on preserving the memories of the two women they lost.

ā€œThey just need to continue their legacy,ā€ Miles said.

The crash serves as another reminder of how quickly one moment on the road can change multiple lives. While the legal process continues, a grieving family is left remembering two women whose kindness and compassion touched many people around them.
