6-Year-Old Missing From Ohio Recovered in Houston After Family Pickup Turns Into Multi-State Search, Officials Say
A mother’s plan to pick up her young son after a weekend with family turned into a frightening search that stretched from Ohio to Texas, according to federal authorities.
A 6-year-old boy from Maple Heights, Ohio, was safely recovered in Houston on the morning of June 18, 2026, after investigators say he was taken without permission and brought to the Texas area. The U.S. Marshals Service said D’Juan Younger, 37, was arrested in connection with the case.
According to officials, the child’s mother contacted the Maple Heights Police Department on June 15 after she arrived to pick up her son and found that he was missing. The boy had reportedly been left with family members over the weekend, but authorities say the situation changed when Younger allegedly took the child from a family member’s residence without permission.

Authorities said the child’s mother and Maple Heights police pleaded with Younger to return the boy, but he refused. Police later obtained a warrant accusing Younger of interference with custody.
Once the Northern District of Ohio U.S. Marshals Service received information about where Younger and the boy might be, they passed it to investigators in the Southern District of Texas. Officials said the Texas marshals located both Younger and the missing child within a day of receiving the lead.
The child was recovered safely, and Younger was taken into custody without incident, according to the release. He is expected to remain in custody in Houston until he can be extradited back to Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where he will face the charge.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott praised the Maple Heights Police Department for its investigative work and said the department’s decision to request federal assistance helped bring the child home safely and quickly.
