How to Make a Chopped Italian Sandwich Stromboli
Making a stromboli is an easy and delicious way to enjoy classic Italian sandwich ingredients.
To begin, you’ll need to collect the necessary ingredients: salami, ham, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan cheese.
Make the dough!
Mix yeast with sugar, warm milk, and 3 tablespoons of flour in a bowl. Stir, and leave for 10 minutes.
Add the egg, salt, remaining flour, and melted butter.
Knead the dough, and add a little flour if necessary. For convenience, lubricate the hands with oil.
Leave the dough in a warm place for 40 minutes, and cover it with a towel.
You can use store-bought pre-made pizza dough if you prefer.
Making the Stromboli
Roll out the dough into a large rectangular shape. Grease with melted butter mixed with crushed garlic.
Once the dough is rolled into a large oval shape, it’s time to start layering your ingredients.
Begin by spreading a layer of salami, pepperoni, and ham on top of the dough.
Then, sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the meats. Grease everything with a beaten egg.
Now it’s time to roll up your stromboli!
Carefully lift one end of the dough and fold it over the other end to create a log shape. Be sure to pinch the seams together as you go.
Next, you’ll need to carefully transfer the stromboli to a baking sheet.
Brush the top of the dough with butter mixed with parmesan and herbs. This will help give the stromboli a golden color and also provide extra flavor.
Make incisions across the top.
Finally, bake it in a preheated oven for 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Remove from oven when golden brown.
Let the stromboli cool for a few minutes before slicing into it.
Serve with marinara for dipping.
