What are Hot Chocolate Bombs

Hot chocolate bombs are a popular and trendy treat that gained popularity in recent years.

They are typically made of chocolate shells filled with hot cocoa mix and other ingredients like marshmallows, sprinkles, or even caramel bits.

The bombs are placed in a mug, and hot milk is poured over them.

As the hot milk melts the chocolate shell, it releases the contents inside, creating a delicious and visually appealing hot chocolate drink.

The result is a fun and interactive way to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, with the added surprise of what might be inside the bomb.

Hot chocolate bombs have become popular as gifts, especially during the holiday season, and many people enjoy making them at home or purchasing them from specialty shops.

The variety of flavors and fillings makes them a customizable and delightful treat for hot chocolate lovers.

Melting Snowman Hot Chocolate Bomb Instructions

The process of making hot chocolate bombs involves melting chocolate, coating molds with the melted chocolate, filling the molds with hot cocoa mix and other goodies, sealing the molds with more chocolate, and allowing the bombs to set.

Make The Hot Chocolate Bomb

Melt the bag of chocolate in the microwave in 30-second increments and stir until smooth.

Whipped cream in a glass bowl on a marble surface.

Fill each cavity of the hot chocolate mold until covered.  We like to use the back of a spoon to draw the chocolate up the sides.  Allow to set.

Follow up with another layer of melted chocolate around the top edge of each cavity where the two spheres are going to join.  A thicker edge is better!  Keep in mind that you don’t want to fill the cavity too full of chocolate (it will try to rest in the bottom) as that means less cocoa mix and marshmallows.  Allow to set.

Remove the sphere halves from the molds very gently.

Using a WARM frying pan, gently melt the ridge of one sphere.

Fill with a drink mix of choice and any marshmallows, if desired.

Then take another shell half and place in the frying pan to melt down the edges.  Immediately place this shell on top of the filled half in order to create the seal and join the two halves to make the complete sphere.  Gently press along the sides to clean up the seal and remove any excess melted chocolate.

Set to the side as you finish the remaining bombs.

To Decorate

Melt the chocolate chips and the orange candy melts.  Transfer the melted chocolates to individual piping bags.

Cut a small hole in the end of the chocolate and pipe two larger circles for the eyes and then about 5 smaller circles for the coal mouth.

Cut a small hole in the end of the orange bag and pipe a triangular shape to form the nose.  Allow to set for the chocolate to harden.

To Use

When ready to consume, place the bomb in a mug.  Heat up 8-12 oz of milk or water – the hotter the better explosion.  Slowly pour over the bomb and stir thoroughly.  Allow to cool before consuming, if needed.  Enjoy!
