How to Make a Spaghetti Christmas Tree

Prepare the vegetables. Clean the sweet pepper from the insides and cut into small cubes. Similarly, chop the onion and carrots. Passerate the vegetables in a pan with olive oil until transparent.

Place the mince in the pan and cook, breaking up any lumps with a spatula.

Pour in the water or stock and simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes over low heat.

While the sauce is cooking, cut out the snowflakes, and stars and cut the trunk out of the cheese. Add salt, pepper, and spices to taste.

Boil water in a saucepan. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Set aside some of the parmesan to serve.

Combine the spinach, Parmesan, almonds, olive oil, and a couple of spoonfuls of water in the bowl of a blender. Whisk the contents of the bowl until smooth.

Drain the spaghetti in a colander and transfer it to a bowl. Add the spinach mixture and blend.

To make the Christmas tree, take about 10 spaghetti noodles and wrap them around the palm of your hand. Lay them out as the bottom tier of the Christmas tree. Wrap the next set around about 4 fingers. The tier will become smaller.

Continue laying out the spaghetti, wrapping them around 3, 2, and 1 finger.  Lay out the star and trunk of cheese. Add the onion rings.

Recipe Variations

Here are a few variations and ideas you can consider:

1. Meat Selection:

  1. Mix of Meats: Instead of just ground beef, consider a mix of ground beef, pork, and veal for a richer flavor.
  2. Turkey or Chicken: Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

2. Sauce Variations:

  1. Tomato Varieties: Experiment with different types of tomatoes or add sun-dried tomatoes for extra depth.
  2. Creamy Touch: Introduce a touch of cream or milk to the sauce for a creamier texture.

3. Spaghetti Alternatives:

  1. Vegetable Noodles: Substitute spaghetti with zucchini noodles (zoodles) or carrot ribbons for a healthier twist.
  2. Different Pasta Shapes: Try using penne, fusilli, or farfalle to create a unique tree shape.

4. Cheese and Garnish:

  1. Cheese Blend: Mix Parmesan, mozzarella, and cheddar for a flavorful cheesy topping.
  2. Herb Garnish: Add chopped parsley or basil to the spaghetti for a burst of color.

5. Additional Ingredients:

  1. Veggies: Incorporate finely chopped vegetables like carrots, celery, or bell peppers into the sauce for added nutrients and flavor.
  2. Wine: Deglaze the pan with red wine for a more complex taste.

Assembly Tips:

  1. Layering: Instead of a typical mound of spaghetti, layer the pasta in a cone or tree shape by using a mold or shaping it freehand on a baking sheet.
  2. Decorations: Consider using cherry tomatoes, sliced olives, or bell pepper strips as Christmas ornaments on the tree. Parsley or basil leaves can mimic the look of pine needles.

Cooking Method:

  1. Baking: After assembling the spaghetti tree, you can bake it in the oven until the cheese melts and forms a golden crust.
