Carnegie Deli is Back in Midtown Manhattan After Nearly 10 Years
Carnegie Deli has returned to Midtown Manhattan after nearly a decade away, reopening at 834 Seventh Ave. in the former Stage Deli space between West 53rd and West 54th streets. The restaurant’s comeback brings back its oversized deli sandwiches, cheesecake, and walk-in-only service to a familiar part of New York’s food scene.
Carnegie Deli’s Midtown Return
The reopening marks Carnegie Deli’s return to Midtown after its original location closed in 2016. The nearly decade-long gap ended with a new restaurant space that keeps the deli on Seventh Avenue, a location with its own New York deli history.
The new Carnegie Deli occupies the former Stage Deli space, a notable connection because Stage Deli was a longtime rival of Carnegie Deli. The move places Carnegie Deli back in Midtown while continuing the restaurant’s long-running presence in New York’s food scene. NBC New York reported that the new site is a 2,500-square-foot restaurant with 110 seats, opening a block south of Carnegie Deli’s former home.
What Diners Can Expect at the New Location
The new location gives diners a chance to find Carnegie Deli’s oversized deli sandwiches, including pastrami and corned beef options, along with cheesecake. The restaurant’s classic offerings are part of the menu’s return, alongside several newer items.
NBC New York’s reopening guide reported that the deli is also serving all-beef hot dogs, Reuben fries, fried deli pickle chips, and babka French toast.
The menu also includes the Carnegie Deli Colossus sandwich, which is made with pastrami, corned beef, turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, Russian dressing, and rye bread.
The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Seating is available on a walk-in-only, first-come, first-served basis, and reservations are not accepted. The new location has 110 seats. CBS New York also reported that the deli is located one block south of its former Seventh Avenue home.
Carnegie Deli’s return also continues a history that dates back to 1937. Sarri Harper, the company’s CEO and third-generation owner, is leading the restaurant’s next chapter.
On reopening day, customers lined up in Midtown for the deli’s return, reflecting the enduring interest in the restaurant after its decade-long absence.  The reopening brings Carnegie Deli back to Midtown with its deli-focused menu and a new home at 834 Seventh Ave.
For New York diners, the reopening represents a new chapter for a restaurant that has been part of the city’s deli landscape for decades.
