Spooky Decorations for Halloween Brownies

If you want to take your Halloween brownies to the next level, adding spooky decorations is the way to go. These Halloween-themed treats are all about creating a frightful atmosphere, and what better way to do this than with some eerie decorations?

Spider Webs

Spider webs are a classic Halloween decoration that can easily transform your brownies into a spooky masterpiece. To create spider webs on your brownies, simply drizzle white icing in a circular motion on top of the brownies. Then, using a toothpick or skewer, draw lines from the center of the circle to the edges of the brownie to create a web-like effect.

Creepy Crawlies

Placing gummy worms or fake insects on top of your brownies can add an extra layer of spookiness. Make sure to arrange them in a way that looks natural and creepy, such as having the gummy worms coming out of the brownie or placing the fake insects in a crawling position. Your guests will surely be impressed with the attention to detail!

Blood Spatters

If you want to go for a more gory look, adding blood spatters can do the trick. Using red icing, splatter it on top of the brownies with a toothbrush or paintbrush to create a blood-splattered effect. This decoration is not for the faint-hearted, but it can certainly make your brownies stand out!

How to Make Witches Brew Halloween Brownies Recipe

Preheat the Oven

Before starting to make the brownies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. This will ensure that the brownies cook evenly and are not under or overcooked.

Grease the Muffin Pan

To prevent sticking, spray a mini-muffin pan with non-stick spray and coat it with a thin layer of flour for easier release (or use BAKING spray with flour in the spray).

Prepare the Brownie Batter

In a medium, microwavable bowl, combine butter and chocolate chips and heat in 30-second increments until melted and combined. Then add cocoa powder, instant coffee grounds, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, baking powder, salt, and vanilla; whisk to combine. Finally, add in the flour and stir until fully combined.

Bake

Measure out one tablespoon worth of brownie batter into each muffin cavity and bake in a preheated oven for 16-18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Scoop the Brownies

Immediately upon removing your brownies from the oven, have a rounded teaspoon or similar-sized scoop handy. Once removed from the oven, press the scoop into the top of the brownie to create a hole where you will fill the frosting and sprinkles once cooled. This must be done while the brownies are still hot, otherwise, they will begin to set and harden, preventing an indentation.

Allow Time to Cool

Once you have created your indentations with a scoop, it is important to allow your brownies time to cool completely before adding any frosting or sprinkles. If you attempt to add these ingredients before cooling, they may sink into the holes instead of sitting on top of them. Allowing your brownies time to cool helps ensure that your finished product looks its best!

Make the Frosting

Soften the Butter

The first step in making the frosting is to soften the butter. To do this, you can either leave it out at room temperature for a few hours or you can microwave it for a few seconds. Be sure not to melt the butter, as this will affect the texture of the frosting. Once softened, add it to the bowl of a stand mixer and set aside.

Combine Cream Cheese and Powdered Sugar

Once the butter has been softened, add in the cream cheese, salt, and vanilla extract and mix until smooth. Then add in the powdered sugar and mix on low speed for about a minute before bumping up the speed to high for an additional minute to make it fluffy and smooth. Finally, add in your desired food coloring to give your frosting its desired hue.

Pipe Frosting onto Halloween Brownies

Once you have finished mixing your frosting, transfer it into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip so that you can pipe it onto your cooled brownies. Start by piping a small dollop of frosting into each crevice of each brownie before topping them with sprinkles or other decorations of your choice. Enjoy!
